Shannon is a native Coloradoan who has spent much of her time exploring the great outdoors, from trekking mountain peaks to living down island in the Florida Keys. She received her first set of oil paints as a child and has since colored her way through life. Her travels became an inspiration to pick up the brush in earnest.
In 2003, she attended the Bemis School of Art in Colorado Springs for formal training in oil painting; in 2005, she completed a course in abstract painting and attended a watercolor workshop in 2008. Shannon participated in an art contest at The Broadmoor in 2009, sponsored by the Bemis School. Her entry, a painting entitled, “Simply Fourteen,” resides at The Broadmoor as a memento.
She also attended an experimental workshop at the La Veta School of the Arts, La Veta, Colorado, in 2007, where she explored individual styles of abstraction. Her instructor, Peggy Zehring, President and Director of the LVSA, studied in Chicago with Elaine deKooning and disciples of Wassily Kandinsky.
Shannon sold her first painting, “Yellow Sky,” in 2005, at the Karin Newby Gallery in Tubac, Arizona. She also sold “Four Corners” at the Pathways and Portals opening season show, Tubac Center of the Arts, in 2006. In 2007, Shannon was commissioned to paint three works of art. She has currently sold 10 paintings. Her first art opening was on May 7, 2010, at Black Cat Books in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
Shannon’s love of color shows vibrantly in her art and uniquely expresses her true passion with enlightened visions.
